The Thin Blue Line

I forget some times that there is a world and a life outside of law enforcement.  My dad has been a cop for over thirty years. I’ve worked as a 911 operator and police dispatcher for eight years and was raised in the life. Today, a local police officer died in the line of duty. While he wasn’t an officer I work with or even knew, I changed my Facebook picture to the thin blue line as a sign of respect and support. A friend of mine asked me what it was, what it meant. To most folks it’s a colored band on a black banner. For others this is a family crest, a philosophy and a way of life. I’ll save the childhood stories and the emotional description of the toll that the job takes on a man (and is family) for another post. God bless all those who stand and protect us, the thin blue line that separates order from chaos and makes society trudge on.
